Stair Lifts and Foot TrafficIf you have a narrow staircase, there are models available that can accommodate the short width of your steps, however you also need to take into consideration how much room with be left for those on foot to easily pass by and use the staircase. Usually, this problem is easily solved by purchasing a model that folds up and out of the way. Many available products feature both a seat and footrest that can easily be folded simply by pushing on a small lever. In the folded position, the stair lift will only take up about 10-12 inches, depending on the model. That should leave plenty of room for foot traffic without creating a crowded and cramped staircase.
Another common solution involves using a slightly elongated track so that it curls around the edge of the staircase at the top and bottom landings. By shifting the seat just a few inches out of the way, the staircase becomes more open and easy to access. A combination of these two features can also be used to maximize space saving capabilities.
